Practice Groups are based on ability rather than age
Beginners: New swimmers that are not familiar with competitive swimming or those that can not do all 4 strokes or turns legally. All swimmers 7 & Under should plan on being part of this group unless otherwise instructed by coaches. 8 year old swimmers who can do all 4 strokes and a flip turn should NOT practice in this group. The major focus of this group will be learning the 4 competitive strokes and turns.
Intermediate: This group is for those swimmers who can do all 4 strokes and turns. Generally, this will consist of all swimmers aged 9 and over. We offer 4 practices a week of which swimmers should plan on attending 2 – 4 practices a week. Younger swimmers here can do well with 2 or 3 nights a week. As age increases it is ideal to practice 4 nights a week. By the time the swimmer is 12 we definitely need to be practicing 4 nights a week. Please note all swimmers are encouraged to practice as often as possible. If your 9 year old swimmer wants to come to more practices then by all means they are welcome.
Seniors: This group is for those swimmers that are committed to the sport and are working towards our elite meets at the end of the season (Zones or Nationals). High School swimmers are also considered as Seniors. Swimmers will be invited to attend senior practices by the coaches. Returning swimmers from previous season that were seniors should be considered as seniors this year. Generally the age will be 12 and up but coaches reserve the right to adjust this group on a case by case basis. Senior swimmers are expected to practice as often as possible with the ideal goal being 5 sessions a week.
